The term KML stands for Keyhole Markup Language. The file extension KML are generated and created by Google Earth. It is an XML (extended markup language)-based schema used to represent the geographical information and data to be viewed on present environment or forthcoming applications like two dimensional maps or 3 dimensional maps.
KML files are mainly used to save geographical explanatory note in a standard XML format which is used by map browsers like Google Earth. Keyhole Inc is a software company, which has actually created the Keyhole Markup Language to use with the earth viewer or map browser. Later it became google earth after the acquisition of Keyhole Inc by Google in 2004.These files are accessed by the map browsers like Google Earth, where it displays the file just like html file. Such files are displayed using Google Maps for cell phones, Yahoo Pipes, etc.
